Toe Socks Can Improve Balance: GA Podiatrist
Toe socks may look a little unusual at first glance, but this once-niche style has been gaining traction among runners, gym-goers, and hikers. Unlike traditional socks, they separate each toe into its own compartment, and experts say that small design shift can improve overall foot comfort. Part of the appeal comes down to toe alignment. When you’re on your feet, having space between the toes can help the foot sit in a more natural position instead of being compressed inside a shoe. “That can help improve balance and reduce pressure between the toes, which becomes more noticeable during long periods of standing or walking,” says Peter Talisse, DPM, a podiatric foot and ankle surgery specialist at Ankle & Foot Centers of America.

That said, toe socks can take a bit of getting used to and aren’t for everyone. Experts emphasize that the foundation of foot comfort still comes down to proper footwear and fit. “Toe socks can be a useful addition for some individuals, but they work best when combined with supportive, well-fitting shoes,” says Dr. Talisse.

TN Podiatrist Discusses What Shoes to Wear on a Flight
Opting for comfortable shoes on airport days should be a no-brainer. After all, supportive soles are always a recipe for success when you’re on your feet all day. But you’d be surprised how many people end up getting it so wrong that they end up at the doctor’s for an injury or strain, according to Jeffrey S. Hurless, DPM. “Most people think about comfort when flying, but they forget about everything that happens before they ever board the plane,” Dr. Hurless says. He points to how busy airports are, with rushed people running around with rolling luggage, leading to broken toes, crushed toenails, and lacerations.

“Choosing the right shoes can help prevent injuries and make the entire travel day much more comfortable.” He says that there are three styles you should never wear on a flight: flip-flops, heels, and Crocs. Instead, it’s important to shoot for supportive, closed-toe shoes with a roomy toe box that accommodates natural swelling that occurs during long flights.

Places to Look for Revenue Cycle Leaks Before They Drain Your Practice
3. Reconcile every payment against your contracted allowable.
Underpayment and down-coding both hide in the gap between what a payer allowed and what your contract says it owes. A pivot table showing the minimum, average, and maximum allowed amount for a given code by payer is a fast first pass: a tight, consistent range is reassuring, while a wide spread is a signal to dig in. Loading your full fee schedules and contracted rates then lets you flag every line that paid short, say 75% or 80% of the contracted amount, and trace it back to the code on the remittance.
Watch the contractual allowance itself, too. A CO-45 that zeroes out a $1,249 charge as "charge exceeds fee schedule" deserves a second look, not an automatic write-off; no contract allows a payer to owe you nothing. And confirm the payer actually loaded your rates. A renegotiated contract the payer never loads is a stealth underpayment, and by the time anyone notices, timely filing may have closed the door.

Finding income investments in retirement requires a careful balance. Here are five ways to boost your cash flow without taking on unnecessary risk.
4. Bond ladders and target maturity ETFs
Retirees need income on which they can rely, which can be hard to build with equity-linked investments that can be vulnerable to drawdowns. That's where fixed-income strategies such as bond ladders and target maturity ETFs can help. With a bond ladder, you spread money across bonds or bond funds that mature in different years. As each rung of the ladder matures, you can spend the proceeds or roll it into a new rung to create a steady stream of portfolio cash flow.
Defined maturity ETFs offer one way to build that type of structure without buying individual bonds. "They combine income potential with a known maturity year, which can help investors align fixed income exposure with future spending needs," Jason Bloom, head of Fixed Income ETF strategy for Invesco, says. For example, the Invesco BulletShares 2030 Corporate Bond ETF (BSCU) will terminate and distribute cash to shareholders around December 15, 2030.

Grading Yourself After Surgery
Here are some valuable tips that have aided Savannah Santiago, DPM in navigating her experiences as a student and a resident:
Self-assessment can either accelerate growth or fuel imposter syndrome, depending on how you approach it. It's useful to break evaluation down to 4 domains.
1. Patient Selection and Pre-operative Decision-Making
When reflecting on this domain ask yourself:
- Who was the patient, and what factors made this case unique?
- Did I adequately prepare — reviewing relevant literature, anatomy, or technique beforehand?
- What surprised me, and could I have anticipated it?
- Looking back, was surgery truly the best option for this patient?
- What alternatives could have been considered?
These questions push you past the mindset of performing an operation and toward understanding why that operation was chosen in the first place. In many ways, this domain represents the transition from thinking like a resident to thinking like an attending.

Also demonstrated in the statistics from Wayne State Medical School is how competitive it was this year. They interviewed 11% of their applicants and matriculated 2%. This seems to be a microcosm and not illustrative of all medical schools.
My favorite AI is telling me that this year, 35% to 45% of applicants to MD and DO schools were matriculated. It makes you wonder why Wayne State was so much more selective? The year I applied in 1977, medical schools across the board accepted 11% of applicants.

Michael "Mike" Chambers Porter, age 79, of Summerfield, NC, passed away on July 7, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro. He was very proud to have served several years as a Reserve Officer in the Navy Medical Service Corps.

Mike earned his podiatric medical degree from the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. For most of his career, Mike practiced medicine in Jacksonville, NC, providing skilled and compassionate medical and surgical care to his patients until retiring at the age of 60.
