MD Podiatrist Discusses What to Look for in an Insole
When recommending insoles for nurses, teachers, hair stylists, warehouse workers, or runners, Mikel Daniels, DPM, president and chief medical officer at WeTreatFeet Podiatry, looks for three key features: a true heel cup, a stable arch, and enough cushioning to handle hard floors.
Dr. Mikel Daniels
A deep heel cradle stabilizes the foot and helps maintain proper alignment. Every runner moves differently, and high arches often need more flexible support. Heel-to-toe cushioning helps prevent common running injuries.

WEBINARS IN THE NEWS
Shockwave Therapy Shows Promise for Limb Salvage in Challenging Cases
Ben Pearl, DPM moderated a webinar featuring attorney Max Newman addressing critical data security concerns in credit card processing and HIPAA compliance; followed by board-certified wound specialist Richard Kaufman, DPM presenting breakthrough applications of extracorporeal shockwave therapy for chronic wounds. This dual-topic approach allowed practitioners to stay current on both practice management essentials and cutting-edge clinical advances. Here is a video clip from the presentation
Click photo to view short video
Dr. Kaufman opened with a dramatic case: a 33-year-old diabetic dialysis patient referred for transmetatarsal amputation who kept his toes after weekly shockwave treatments stimulated tissue regeneration where traditional approaches had failed. His presentation detailed how extracorporeal shockwave therapy works at the molecular level to create neoangiogenesis, with clinical cases including successful limb salvages in patients with no revascularization options. This technology is now covered by Medicare in certain jurisdictions, making it increasingly accessible as both a stand-alone treatment and complement to traditional wound care interventions.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY

Tips for merging your medical practice without losing your people or patients

Here are some practical tips to help physician owners and administrators plan, close, and integrate the right way.

6) Over-communicate: staff first, then patients
Most mergers don’t go sideways because the math was wrong. They go sideways because people feel blindsided: Staff worry about jobs and reporting lines, clinicians worry about autonomy and workflow, and patients worry about continuity. The antidote is simple (and hard): Communicate early, clearly, and repeatedly. Say what’s changing, what isn’t, and what happens next. Then keep saying it. Culture is usually the “soft” issue everyone agrees is important — right up until it becomes the main thing.

SOLE PURPOSE BY SAVANNAH SANTIAGO, DPM
10 Things You Need to Practice Medicine That Money Can't Buy
Here are some valuable tips that have aided Savannah Santiago, DPM in navigating her experiences as a student and a resident:
7. Have a Mentor You Trust
One of the most beautiful things about the podiatry community is how many incredible mentors I’ve been lucky enough to learn from over the years. From podiatry school to residency, and through my involvement with various organizations, I’ve had the privilege of crossing paths with some truly inspiring people in our field.
A mentor doesn’t have to be someone with all the answers—they just need to be someone you trust, who sees your potential, and who genuinely wants to help you grow. Find those people. Learn from them. And when the time comes, pay it forward.

OBITUARIES
RE: The Passing of Michael J. Miller, DPM
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved friend and family member Michael Miller, 80. Cherished by all who knew him, he brought warmth, kindness, and laughter into every room. His legacy of compassion and generosity will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched. We celebrate his remarkable life and honor the memories we shared together.
Dr. Michael Miller
Mike attended the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine from 1963-1967. He was Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Mike was involved with numerous podiatric boards and was instrumental in reviewing and updating podiatric medical textbooks.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (PODIATRIC PRODUCTS IN THE NEWS)
From: Lloyd Smith, DPM
There is the implication in Dr. Steinberg's post that all shoes must provide stability. Although most patients of podiatrists need a blend of stability and cushioning, many runners, especially elite and competitive athletes, prefer a minimalist shoe that doesn’t interfere with their stride.

RE: Outrageous Shoe of the Day

There was an old woman who lived in a shoe... but it probably didn't look anything like this. The High Heel Wedding Church, located in Budai township of Taiwan, is literally crafted to look like Cinderella's glass slipper.

The High Heel Wedding Church

Built in 2016, it's made up of 320 tinted glass panels and is 55 feet tall by 36 feet wide, according to NPR.
